Functional usefulness:
Prescribed hrt and facilitated blood tests as advised by gendercare (shared care) back in 2023 until nhs took over my care later the same year. They still prescribe and facilitate blood tests for the nhs tavistock and portman gic to this day.
They wrote for me the non-specialist doctor's letter required for grc application in early 2025.
Negative experiences:
All admin is coordinated by me even though I am on the nhs, they don't tend to read my letters from the GIC throughly enough to see when I need blood tests or prescription changes, I have to sort these myself as I am copied into the letters.
They never send blood test results to the GIC themselves I have to send them or ask them to do so as an admin request.
They had not read my GIC clinic letters throughly enough to know that I had had a gender affirming surgery which they needed to say in my doctor's letter for my grc application.
One time when phoning reception to arrange my blood test I was asked who requested it and when I said an NHS gender identity clinic they said sorry I don't think we can do that any more I'll check and give you a call back but I never received a call back or any other follow up. To resolve this I went in person and had no problem booking the blood test as I just told them which clinic letter to look at.
Positive experiences:
The HCA who takes my blood most times has a trans son and is very supportive due to this so I feel very comfortable with her.
One of the receptionists seems to know me by now as I often have complex blood test requirements and find it easiest to go in person and ask her to help me with arranging the, it is clear to me that she knows I am trans and is supportive by helping me navigate reception and admin issues.
